It's Christmas time and I received one of my favorite gifts in the mail yesterday.
I'm the youngest of five children in my family. Sometime after I moved out on my own something wonderful happened to Christmas presents from my parents.
It started when they gave all of us a Water Buffalo.
The gift has been various things over the years. This year I received a donkey.
Appropriate for the Liberal Democrat in your life, don't you think?
My son got married this past year and is now building a life for himself with his new wife. Very wonderful and happy stuff going on there that I couldn't be more pleased about.
My granddaughter is officially a teenager this year (is she ever) and is interested in whatever it is that teenagers are interested in.
I don't have much extra money for gift buying these days but I'm thinking perhaps it is time I started giving gifts that really give.
Probaly not a Water Buffalo. But perhaps a Flock of Chicks, maybe a gaggle of geese. I don't see a partridge in a pear tree listed but I do see honeybees and mango trees; water pumps, goats, and the three little pigs (and no, I don't mean Bruno, Espada and Reuben Diaz, Sr).
There are lots of great organizations like Heifer International and Food for the Poor doing great and much needed work.
If you are struggling to figure out those last few gifts to giver perhaps a gift that gives to many all at once is the answer.
Merry Christmas.
p.s. And while we fight over health care coverage reform... Maleria nets for real health coverage aren't a bad idea either.
