I wrote a diary during the primaries calling out the President on his Afghanistan policy. Enough with the, "Why did you vote for him if you knew his policy" stuff. I voted against McCain frankly. Here is me calling Obama on his bullshit in early 2008.
Obama's Foreign Policy regarding Afghanistan is Bullshit
A presumption exists amongst most Americans, even liberals, that the war and occupation of Afghanistan was justified. The Afghan war is the "good" war because there are terrorists there that want to kill us. The war in Iraq is "bad" because there was no danger.
Barack Obama also believes this myth, or he retells the myth. He often repeats that we need to shift the war from Iraq to the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan because the real "terrorists" are there not Iraq. It's been said so often that sometimes even I believe it!
Of course it is complete nonsense.
The invasion of Afghanistan was abhorrent we should all see that clearly. It is not justified to invade a nation, destroy their country, kill tens of thousands of civilians because they "harbor" criminals.
Let's be clear on this as well. It takes a fairly pliable mind to buy the story of the Bush administration regarding Afghanistan. You have to contort your brain and logic in such a way to believe that the Taliban did not value their lives or their power. That they would rather be murdered or lose their position of authority for a group of Arab criminals.
Answer the question honestly to yourselves: Would Afghan leaders refuse to give up a handful of criminals to the United States because they hate us for our freedom? Or because...their all Muslim and think alike?
The Taliban like everyone else value their lives, and failing that something more valuable their Power.
Realizing this you have to realize the story we are told is bullshit.
Not that it's of great importance. Even if they held Osama Bin Laden and stuck up their middle fingers all in unison and screamed "Fuck you America!" that would STILL not justify invading.
The reason for invading is obvious. Access to the Caspian Sea and the Oil and Natural Gas reserves contained therein. But has our policy-makers stopped to think at what price it will cost to secure access to all those resources? Does anyone remember a nation, now dead, called the Soviet Union?
That desolate fucking nation has claimed one Super-power why do we want to follow to Soviets into self-destruction?
This is my "Im sick of Obama's bullshit" reason: He must know that there are no terrorists in Afghanistan or Pakistan that is a real threat to the United States. He is much smarter than I am and must know that the war on
terrorism is nonsense.
Terrorism is not a threat to the United States of America.
The terrorists cannot possibly destroy America not even with a nuclear bomb (maybe 100s but thats something else). To shift "The War on Terror" from Iraq to Afghanistan is therefore stupid. Obama is not stupid. I'm tired of his bullshit.
If you believe terrorism is the greatest threat to the U.S. you're a moron flat out. The greatest danger to the US is the US government. Our empire is costing us our super-power status not ensuring its continuance. The value of our currency is declining, inflation increasing, recession looming...all directly linked to our foreign excursions of the last 5 years.
Obama is a bigger threat the McCain in one sense. With McCain there will at least be many voices crying for his policy to change. I feel like with Obama everyone will fall silent and allow troops in Afghanistan indefinitely to fight a mythical foe. It scares me.
Obama will leave tens of thousands of troops in Iraq and will increase the troop levels in Afghanistan. This is poor foreign policy. I'm tired of his bullshit.
EDIT: The story is that there are terrorists somewhere in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan plotting to kill Americans at all costs. They have a vast web of terrorist cells that infiltrate all the advanced western nations waiting to strike when ordered. If we fight them in the middle east or Afghanistan we can get them before they attack us.
If you believe that then it's not I who have gone "all Republican" because you accept Bush's reasoning for invading Iraq and Afghanistan.
Frankly we know about the Taliban through a filter which the news has provided for us. Our understanding of the whole process has passed through many filters for years until we accept as true what is oft-repeated. It doesn't really take much but using a bit of critical thinking to see its not a true story. It's a myth.
At some distant time I hope Americans will wake up to the fact that we have been deceived by the myth of terrorism. If not well that hurts me not just because of the lives we will take and lose but because reality will remain corrupted.
