It seems that the these last two times that Democrats won the White House, the party pretty much fell apart not long after. Example, in 1992, Bill Clinton came in with a strong majority at every level, including a 56-44 majority in the Senate, a 258-176 majority in the House, and big majorities in state legislatures and governorships. Two years later, the party was pretty much non-existant. Republicans controlled everything and often by significant margins. Things stayed that way for 12 long years until 2006.
Just 16 years later, under another Democratic President, the party appears to be taking the same exact path. Obama came in with strong majorities in the House and Senate(even bigger than Clinton's majority) and the party seems likely to piss it all away next year.
I dont know about you, but there clearly seems to be a correlation between Democratic Presidents and the party simply getting destroyed. Can we afford another 12(or likely more) years with a Republican Congress?
My question here is, should Democrats simply try to avoid winning the White House from now on while simply focusing on Congress and lower level offices? I mean, its not like Democrats can get anything done when they are in the White House.
The problem is that Democrats got greedy and decided that after the 2006 wins(which were crucial in killing Bush's Social Security and tax reform plans) they should try and get control of everything. The problem is that with power comes responsibility and the need for competence. Democrats are not competent party and incapable of running the White House. Just look at Obama. The man is all thumbs. He has spent the last nine or so months simply tripping over himself and in the process has gotten almost nothing of substance done.
The Democratic party cannot take full control of the government. It will always be a death sentance for a party that cannot govern.
If the party plans to take full control of the government again, they need to greatly reform themselves and be able to develop better communication skills and media operations. Right now, the party simply cannot compete with corporate owned media.
