I miss Bush
When Bush was President, he got his agenda done. He did not worry about his opponents; after all they have lost the election and needed to get used to him being the president. He was not a consensus builder. He was the decider. Bush never would have thrown his supporters under the bus for the sake of passing a bill. He stood his grounds and if he did not get the bill he wanted, at least people saw that he tried and those Democrats in Congress were standing in his way. He would never have compromised like Obama is doing.
Obama is not fighting for us. Does he not realize that we only have a very slim window to get our agenda done. If he thinks he is having a hard time from the Republicans now, wait until in 2010 the Republicans regain control of Congress. He will basically be a lame duck President. Nothing will get done. We elected him to make changes and none of those changes are coming as fast or in the form that I personally wanted.
Take Health Care Reform for example; Obama let Congress disctate how the bill should be rather than the other way around. He is not supporting a strong Public Option. Who cares if people who were previously uninsured will potentially get insurance? It is not a Public Option!
I work in a hospital where we take care of 19% of people who are uninsured (we are a privately held non-profit company). I keep thinking that these particular people want to be insured. I have talked to these people. They are the working poor who make too much money to be eligible for Medicaid but not enough to buy their own insurance. I can't help but think that these people would benefit greatly from a government subsidy and if Medicare is extended to people over 55 that most of these people would be insured. Do uninsured people care where they get their insurance?
There are so many other ways in which Obama has disappointed me but my main criticism is that he is not Bush! I wanted change, but the change I wanted was a President with the cohones and Bravado of Bush but with a leftist agenda.
UPDATE: For the people who want to call me a troll. This diary is in response to the frustrations that I have with people saying that Obama is not doing enough in his support for Health Care Reform.
