Now that the Democratic press conference is over, it's Amateur Hour!
Boehner derides the bill as costing a billion dollars a page.
Compared to Paulson's billion dollars a word ransom note that is pretty damn good.
But somehow more is less with these guys.
He claims the bill won't work.
He claims their solution would have been better.
He is adamantly opposed to it.
He also claims that no one has read the bill.
Anyone notice the non sequitor?
They just prove that Mark Twain was right when he said:
People who don't read have no advantage over people who can't.
.
On the bright side, I have a new litmus test for which journalists I will read over the next few months. Anyone who neglects to mock the mutually exclusive positions of "no one read this bill" and "we had a better plan" is going to wind up as liner for the bird's cage. Milbank... I'm looking at you!
Cantor follows Boehner claiming they have a plan to create twice as many jobs at half the cost.
Details?
Don't hold your breath.
Anyone who reports on this without chastising the lack of details from Republicans is also going straight to recycling. Hopefully they'll be able to separate the bullshit from the paper and it will come back as something more useful.
The Republicans now say they are disappointed that they were promised Washington was going to change... and it didn't. Guess they didn't read the memo... oh wait...NO ONE read the memo! I guess why even though they are faced with a bill that will radically change everything they are disappointed it is the "same old solution based on borrowing and spending more money." Well if it is the "same old solution" why are they fighting it? I thought they were the party looking for "time-honored solutions" to our current problem.
Amazing.
They repeat no one has read it.
And they are confident this bill won't work.
Amazing.
Even though no one has read the bill, they are confident it is not going to help their constituents. One Republican actually used "being from Michigan" as her excuse for being not being able to read the bill! I'm serious. Talk about flaunting your ignorance.
Somehow without reading it they know there is money for high speed rail. Which somehow is anathema to people from Michigan. Sure, supporting the auto industry is important...but decrying high speed rail?
Poor bastards... disappointed they are putting generations into debt. Disappointed they are abrogating their responsibility. It is wrong to pass legislation they haven't read. It is a "cruel hoax" particularly for blue-collar workers. Where have they been the last 8 years?
Incredible.
Pence is claiming they missed a chance to come together around "time honored principles" they came up with something that will do more harm than good. Oh... and now he is going after ACORN, green golf carts and that this is about Republicans saying "yes" to time-tested solutions.
They are now going to questions... but since the first reporter started by addressing Boehner as "Majority Leader"... I'm going to discount anything further going on in this press conference because the lackeys are STILL not paying attention to reality. I mean, seriously, if reporters don't follow the news ... why should we waste time following them?
Reminds me of the old Obi Wan Kenobi quote:
Who's the bigger fool? The fool...or the fool who follows him?
