The brilliant comics over at thefullginsburg.com have a new video out where they basically point out how horrible college Republicans are.
Take a look:
Anyone who has dealt with these people in college knows that they are far removed from reality, and are just as bad as the Michelle Bachmanns and Duncan Hunters of the world no matter how young they are.
Mostly they keep to themselves in college, leaving the worst of their vitriol to a campus publication where Racism, Xenophobia, and crazed paranoia run wild.
I think there's a larger strategy to the conservative publications in college. Their constant attacks on the dominant publication at the college for being too liberal mirrors in many ways how Faux News will attack hardly political media outlets for the slightest infraction. Their ultimate goal is to replace the dominant paper at as many colleges as possible around the country. In order to do this, they simply become extremely aggresive at winning student government elections. Most schools determine paper budgets not by readership, but committees in student government senate or judiciary. At my school for instance, I found out my senior year that the judiciary and senate budget groups were led by editors of the conservative magazine where this racist poem was written and published.
If you're a young progressive and finally get to the point where you want to take action, take my advice and do what I did - file a university complaint and hold a hearing. I was able to demonstrate to the student/faculty panel that the university was not living up to it's claims that it was fostering a welcoming environment for minorities - specifically blacks. I won the complaint and the editors were censured. It wasn't a total destruction of the magazine, but it got a good deal of campus attention, and it exposed these people as the bigots they were at the hearing. Fox News even swooped down to defend the editors.
