This week's installment includes a hip-rock party, a "You're a Loser" letter, some aimless complaining, and a digression on the wasting of time.
However, very little actual content.
Still interested? Journey with me over the proverbial fold...
So lest week I had that phone interview, which I thought I blew. And I did -- the proof came in the mail. It said (slightly paraphrased):
Dear Loser:
You suck. We'll keep your application on file in case we need a good laugh.
Signed,
No Way, No How
P.S. Remember when we said you suck? Yeah. We meant it.
Didn't want to work for them anyway.
Saturday night I got to go out. For the last several years, I didn't go out except for the grocery store, 1 or 2 ovies a year, and the company Generic Holiday party. My friends have a hip-rock band, and I have never been to a show. Either I was at work when they played, or just got off work and wanted to go home, or it was one of my rare days off and I wanted to stay home with the family (for 4 of the last 4.5 years I say my kid for about 5 minutes a day, and my wife about 15, except for weekends and summers. Not exaggerating for impact -- I mean, seriously, I got no time at home when everyone was home and awake.) So this week? I hauled my middle-aged butt down to the Dinkytowner for the hip-hop party.
It was a good time. There's a very embarrasing picture of me with a can of Foster's. Something tells me I haven't seen it for the last time...
Wasting time. I spent the entire damned day playing Galactic Civilizations 2. The only thing I did today that could even be considered remotely productive was dropping a couple applications in the mail and vacuuming the living room. In this modern world there are so so many ways to waste time. It's probably not healthy. For penance I will, um, let me think, I'll get back to you. My brain is totally shut off today. I need that sometimes. The neurochemical architechture I inherited from my mother needs to be shut down from time to time.
I am totally burnt out right now -- I couldn't even sustain my outrage listening to MPR. I just want everyone on TV to shut up. The evening news features 10 parts of critisism of Obama's Socialist Plot To Kill Economy By Over-regulating, Overtaxing, And Deficit Spending to 1 part talking heads saying how things are bad. Eight minutes of analysis of the Meltdown without even a mention of the credit default swap. Santelli and Greenspan.
How long can a failed and discredited ideology hold the nation in its grip?
Today, it feels like forever.
