"He (Senator Burris) did not give a full disclosure of everything that occurred" Durbin said a few moments ago, live on MSNBC.
The Senate Ethics committee is doing an investigation, as is the state of Illinois's attorney general, according to Durbin, the senior Democratic Senator from Illinois.
When questioned what happens in the interim twilight zone of Burris's status of still there but not so wanted anymore as a senator,
"Burris is still going to work hard as the senator of Illinois," Durbin said, but "he's been limited in his travel because of the story, and I hope we get to the truth."
Durbin said that he told Burris before he was appointed: "I gave him one piece of advice, if this involves an appointment by governor Blagojevich, I said, "don't do it" but he didn't take my advice." Blagojevich was impeached and removed from the governor's office January 29 of this year, after being arrested on corruption charges back in December of 2008.
Durbin says there's no time frame on this. But that Burris should resign.
President Obama's first "state of the state not quite the state of the Union" speech to the full Congress is just in a few hours, and the timing of this is pretty .... interesting.
I believe this is what is known as a the ice cream scoop just plopped out of the sugar cone and hit the floor moment.
