This diary is dedicated to my cousin. He died, alone, 20 years ago from AIDS. His family, my Aunt and Uncle, didn't tell anyone he had AIDS. We were told he had a "blood disease."
This diary is also dedicated to my brother-in-law who tried, relentlessly, to adopt a child. He couldn't. He is gay.
And, this diary is dedicated to my friends who don't have the same civil rights that I have.
I am enraged. Today, in Santa Fe, ten so-called-Democracts, voted, in lock step with the Republicans, to deny my fellow citizens their civil rights. From NMFBIHOP, the domestic partnership bill was voted down.
Democrats who really should be Republicans. Who knows exactly why they voted the Domestic Partnership bill down. Maybe it is because of their religious views. Maybe it is because they are hopelessly ignorant, fearful or full of hate. Maybe it is a combination of all of these things.
What I do know is that is it wrong. The following legislators have embarassed my state and their constituents. They all need to re-evaluate why they are legislators because they certainly aren't working in the public interest. They are no longer public servants.

Tim Jennings
Linda Lovejoy

John Arthur Smith

This problem isn't unique to New Mexico. Let these chicken shits know how you feel. This will continue to happen until public pressure forces them back under the rocks from which they came.
New Mexico was bluer than most states this last November. But, sometimes, old shit hangs around much longer than it should. Old attitudes, old prejudices, old cultural values and old religious thought has prevailed in this fight for equal civil rights.
Maybe it is time for the LBGT community to stop paying income taxes.
UPDATE -
Please read Barbwire's blog, Democracy for New Mexico for more info on what happened in New Mexico today.
Equal rights were dismissed over a developer. Spineless and corrupt Dems voted against equal rights in favor of SunCal.
