A cabinet (de)nomination
First Geithner. Then Killefer. Then Daschle.
The first owed $34K. An oversight. These big money guys--that's credible.
The second owed $1K. Nannygate redux. But we're starting to get into overkill?
Then the Big D. $140K. From lobbying contracts, of all things. This guy shoulda known better. First thing he needs to lose are those "inside-the-beltway" red spectacles.
I'm sorry, Mr. Senator, but those things look older than Ben Franklin. They look like those proto-glasses that Sean Connery wore in "In the Name of the Rose."
Maybe it's hard to read the fine print on your returns.
Anyhow. He's out. Which is probably a good thing. Obama's got enough old blood with Hillary. He doesn't need to fight yesterday's battles with Daschle Redux.
The guy that ought to get the job is Fifth District TN Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper. He was working on a bipartisan healthcare reform in the early 1990s before Bill and Hillary (especially the latter) blew into D.C. and decided they were going to run the show. (We see where that got us.)
Cooper's smart--he doesn't play for the cameras. He knows the issues. He might just be able to get something done.
C'mon, O, this guy's a Southern democrat. You can't completely write off the South. And I'd bet my taxes (in M&Ms) that he pays his.
