President Obama told House Democrats Thursday that he will sign an executive order withdrawing limitations on federal funding for stem cell research.
See what happens when we elect a president who can distinguish the difference between a book of fabled stories written over the centuries from a book of science, written by intelligent scientists who can actually save people's lives... right here on earth?
"I guarantee you that we will sign an executive order for stem cells," Obama said in response to a question from Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.). Obama added, though, that he wants to work with the House and Senate to make the order solid, according to the pool report.
The remarks were made during a private question-and-answer session with members and confirmed by two sources.
Obama had suggested during a pre-inauguration interview that he might not use his executive authority to reverse the Bush-era limits on embryonic stem cell research, but might wait instead for Congress to change the policy.
The comments drew attention because Obama pledged during the campaign to lift the restrictions, and political observers had expected him to move quickly to reverse President Bush’s 2001 executive order.
"God gave us power to make smart decisions, to cure diseases, to alleviate suffering," Obama said in Virginia, according to one of the two sources.

Elections have consequences, indeed. One of the numerous positive consequences of electing a new Democratic president is that science, humanitarianism, ecology and intelligence (not "intellectual design"...but human intelligence and ingenuity) are back.
The American people called for change in November, Obama said, "and that's what we're going to deliver."
Gone from power are the hypocritical, Bible thumping, braces on their brains, lying Republicant's and their leader, the failed George W Bush, who rejected science and scientists pleas for federal funding for stem cell research, a science that would and could aid all of humanity.
The new guys have taken over and we intend to move science, ecology and leadership forward. The message to Republicant's.....show some intelligence and cooperation or wander in the desert for many years to come.
