Pardon me for my piss poor diary skills and I'll return the pardon as need be. Please bare with me as I attempt to illicit discussion on something I find important. I will fail to elaborate on it. But, that may be in keeping with my point.
Rahm Emanuel was offered up on url=Meet the Press[/url] for the weekly Democrat Sacrifice where the host stabbed: "OK. But what do you say to critics who say under the guise of stimulus and job creation is really the Democratic social agenda?"
To which Rahm meekly responded:"MR. EMANUEL: Well, it's very clear this is a, a balanced approach. It has critical investments in both energy independence, education and health care cost control, as well as making the essential investments to make sure the middle class also get a tax cut. And I think that is a good approach to getting this economy moving and laying the foundation for long-term competitive economic competitiveness. That's what this does. And what I find ironic, it just--it's interesting, there are those who are now saying that, you know, it borrows too much. Not something we would want to do, but everybody agrees that economists say, both on the left and right, you must do something like this to get the economy moving. This is the worst challenge we are inheriting as a country...
[SNIP Gregory's noise]
MR. EMANUEL: ...the single worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and that the way to deal with that is to do something that you wouldn't normally have to do, which is make big investments to get the economy moving."
I suppose I should spell out the Democratic Social Agenda with great academic elaboration, if there is such a thing, especially for some conservative democrat to wipe his nose with. But, I will not as it's not within my area of expertise.
We can dissect Rahm's answer with our brains turned on now that that we have it here in writing. But, the brain functions differently in the real world where things are not in writing and verbal slippage can be ruinous. Whatever the merits of Rahm's answer it certainly is a bit evasive. It seems to be as if democrats are running away from themselves here and trying to sooth the public that they are not the boogie men that the GOPers grunt about. This is very troubling in some respects.
One, it gives the GOPer's grunts some credibility. After all, the GOPers must be on to something if Democrats are running away from themselves.
Two, it gives the GOPers cover in two respects, one, credibility, as already mentioned. Two, it distracts from the fact that the GOPers championed and continue to champion this second Great Depression In The Making.
The Problem is not the Democratic Social Agenda. The Problem is Democrats buying into or playing nice with the GOPer's Anti-Social Agenda. You can't balance a shit sandwich. Put that on my tomb stone, will you please? Better still, put it on Bill Clinton's so future generations will be fore warned.
Dear Mr. Gregory, the Democratic Social Agenda is Jobs Jobs Jobs that you can raise a healthy family on and retire on with dignity and self-fullfilment and maintain a strong free country on, not world wide wage slavery for those not cut throat and unchristian enough to achieve wealth.
Get. With. The. Fucking. Program!
There is something to be said for keeping it simple stupid. Enjoy.
