Wow, the Rec List?? Thanks guys! First time ever. So do I thank Big John for being a lazy sack??
The cloture vote today in the Senate to allow a final vote on their version of the Senate bill happened this evening. It passed 61-36, one vote more than was needed to pass. So where are those last three votes? Minnesota still doesn't have a second senator. Judd Gregg abstained due to his impending job in Commerce. So who is left? Who skipped out on this important vote?
Folks, that would be John Cornyn of Texas.
Senator Cornyn, the man who has relentlessly attacked the stimulus bill on the Hill and on television decided that he wasn't willing to back up his talk and vote against cloture. Instead he decided not to vote. Ted Kennedy, battling brain cancer, made it for the vote. But Cornyn simply bailed out.
I guess we know now that Cornyn's convictions are a mile wide and an inch deep.
Update: Thanks to luvpolitics1 who discovered why Cornyn wasn't there. It's the old "previous commitment" excuse.
