While the White House press release simply states that President Obama and Treasury Secretary Geithner will meet today with small business owners and community lenders, it is being reported that the President will:
... announce steps on Monday to make it easier for small business owners to borrow money, using $730 million in stimulus funds to cut lending fees, boost loan guarantees and expand other programs, officials said. [...]
The programs being announced on Monday build on the $730 million for small businesses included in the $787 billion economic stimulus package approved by Congress last month.
The Obama administration believes small businesses, which accounted for about 70 percent of new job growth over the past 10 years, will ultimately drive the recovery from the current recession, one of worst in decades, a U.S. official said.
And this message was certainly driven home yesterday, as administration officials fanned out on the Sunday talk shows as a part of the announced plan "to mobilize support for the president’s legislative agenda."
Of course this could create a bit of a dilemma for The Party of No, given that they've spent a lot of time claiming that they just can't support the President because of their deep concern for small business owners.
