Comment early if this is something I have missed these few days I've been away from the site... so I know to let the diary go...
But... I don't get this. Why all this frothing and hoo-haa? Surely the US Congress can just pass a bill that taxes at 100% all bonuses paid out to any recipient of bonuses from companies that took bail out money.
Is there any problem with this. Any reason we cannot do this?
I just don't get it - that seems the obvious solution to this problem and (while admittedly I've been tied up with work this past week and not had time on my fave political blogs so might have missed it) I don't seem to see anyone having mentioned this as an option.
Someone tell me why this cannot be done. Otherwise, if it can be done tell me why it's a terrible idea.
If neither applies can someone do this please?
There's another benefit to doing this. I think it's evident to most readers of DKOS that the tax system has had a very regressive bent in recent years with money funneled upwards. To make it more progressive there needs to be tax hikes for the wealthy that have looted the treasury this last decade.
This is a perfect opportunity to get the American public comfortable with the idea of tax hikes for the wealthy in order to benefit all Americans. Start with the villains that everyone supports as a wedge - a foot in the door - to get a more progressive tax code in people's minds.
With my car close to getting repossessed and my taxes due soon I am as pissed off as anybody that my taxes have to pay to keep these f*ck*ng morons who have destroyed our economy in lifestyles I cannot afford - due to their corrupt actions - to keep my family in.
