Silas was a rescue cat, bought in from the bitter cold one night from the alley behind the bookstore. Scruffy and starving he quickly made the store his home, endearing himself to everyone that stopped by to buy or browse. To be sure he caused trouble, but not so much that anyone could stay mad at him for long.
Silas favorite place to sit at night when the store closed, was the front window where he could people watch. Many times when the owners came to open on a new day, and they were greeted with lipstick kisses on the front windows, where Silas's admirer's had left a mark of their love for him behind from the night before.
I walked by that window more than a few times over the years noticing the regal cat that watched me walk by, and seeing the bar girl kisses
on the window.

Lincoln Journal Star Story - Bookstore cat wrote his own stories
Silas's time came. As it does, and he became unable to have the quality of life he deserved, he left this world painlessly with friends at his side this last month.
Cards of sympathy came in from all over the US and many other countries.
It seems Silas had a bigger following than anyone had ever imagined.
The bookstore felt a real loss with Silas gone, they decided to rescue a new cat for the bookstore, so it would once again have a lovely pootie to
greet people as they come into the store or pass by each night.

Here's to hoping there are many kisses left on the front window of the bookstore for many years to come in admiration of their new Pootie.
Just another Pootie story as a reminder that we are not so good as when we care about someone, or some being other than ourselves.
Pooties Rule, Dogs drool, they all deserve our love....
Cheers and see you around KOS....
