Not one week after AG Eric Holder articulated President Obama's new policy to leave legitimate medical cannabis dispensaries (MCDs) alone, the DEA today raided an MCD with a provisional permit from the City and County of San Francisco.
More on the flip.
The first raid in San Francisco for some time, DEA justifies the raid - that it is in conformance with Holder's statement last week - this way:
"The documents relating to today's enforcement operation remain under court seal. Based on our investigation we believe there are not only violations of federal law, but state law as well. As of now we are prohibited from releasing further details of the case. Items of evidentiary value were seized and no arrests have been made. The investigation is currently ongoing," said DEA Special Agent in Charge Anthony D. Williams in a written statement.
In an age when the drug wars of Mexico are significantly impacting life in the US, including devastation of our public lands by massive Mexican cartel cannabis grows, why is the DEA continuing to harass California MCDs? Granted, some folks are not complying with state law by profiteering in gross ways, but enough is enough!
It's time once and for all to take the crime out of cannabis. Eliminate it from the law enforcement equation allowing the police to redirect its energy where it belongs - violent crime.
