At the online town hall meeting held today, President Obama answered a question about marijuana legalization. He did so in a very condescending and dismissive way.
Will you consider decriminalizing the recreational/medical use of marijuana(hemp) so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and a multi-billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?
His answer was basically "no, and I don't think that is a good way to grow the economy".
When he answered it, he was smiling and laughing and he made a joke about how the question says "something about the audience". But I didn't think it was funny, at all.
First of all, the war on drugs is a massive violation of human rights and civil liberties. This is the real issue when it comes to the war on drugs, not the huge waste of money, or the useful properties of hemp, or the fact that the drug war actually helps drug cartels. The main problem is that it is a severe violation of the human rights of the American People.
The government is throwing people in prison, locking them up with dangerous thugs, tearing apart lives and families, and for what? Because a person sitting in their house stoned, playing video games is going to cause our society to collapse?
No, that's bullshit, and Obama knows, because he used to smoke it. What he is doing is acting less like a person who is interested in changing the status quo and doing the right thing, and looking more like the typical self serving politician.
He talks about change when he wants to get elected, but once he gets elected, it's more of the same:
SAN FRANCISCO—A medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco that gave out free marijuana to poor people is mostly empty after a raid by federal agents.
U.S Drug Enforcement Administration agents descended on Emmalyn's California Cannabis Clinic Wednesday afternoon.
Agents loaded up several pickup trucks parked outside as they carried out marijuana plants, grow lights and other equipment.
If someone dares to challenge him to make real change, he laughs at them and ignores their concerns. "LOL, shut up, you stupid worthless druggies"
He looks down on drug users, like white politicians looked down on african americans during segregation, so he feels that it is okay for the government to violate their human rights.
That is pathetic. I expected more from President Obama.
