Four days ago, the VT Senate passed S.115, a bill legalizing same sex marriage, by a vote of 26-4.
Two days ago, as the VT House Judiciary Committee had just begun their hearings, Gov. Jim Douglas (R) announced he will veto the bill when it reaches his desk after an almost certain victory in the House (but with uncertainty if there is enough votes for a veto override). This is the first time in his 4 terms of office that Gov. Douglas has announced his veto plans while a bill is still going through the legislative process.
We are not going away just because Douglas held a press conference and wished it so!
This weekend, VT Freedom to Marry will host rallies in communities across Vermont to thank our Senators who supported the bill, encourage our Representatives to vote yes, and say shame on Douglas for trying to veto civil rights!
Rallies will be held Burlington, Middlebury, Rutland, Bennington, Brattleboro, White River Junction and Montpelier. Click here for exact times and locations.
Want to do more? Here's 2 quick things Vermonters can do right now to make a difference!
- Contact your State Rep and ask them to vote yes on H.178.
- Contact the Governor, express your disappointment in his veto announcement and ask him to change his mind!
Thank you for your action on this important issue!
Go Equality!
