The Daily Show fuckin' sucks
So anyhow, I'm sittin' up tonight waiting for the Colbert to start, and I got nothin to watch on the ol' television, so I decide to let off on my Daily Show boycott which was in effect. I was boycotting because I felt the show was totally weak, the supporting anchors were lame, and Jon always does this little twitchy, jittery crap while the music is still playing him in at the beginning of every show and he just looks so damn smug doing his little jig which is so stupid I just lose it
So anyhow, I'm watching and they bring out their old segment 'mess o'potamia' and they're covering Obama's withdrawal program. He pretends to get exited that Obama says the US will withdraw....and then gets all upset when he says about 35,000-50,000 will be left behind until 2011. Then he compares Bush talking about military missions in Iraq to Obama talking about the left over force's mission, implying there is little difference between Bush and Obama
SO let me get this straight, Jon Stewart
Obama is going to withdraw about a hundred thousand troops from Iraq in about a year, and in just over two years everyone will have left. We will have left Iraq completely by the end of his first term....and thus that's like George W Bush? In what fashion? Because they both used the words 'combat', 'support', and 'anti-terrorism'? How fuckin' glib, Jon. (You can't see me right now, but I am violently shaking my head from side to side in shame)
I think Jon is just making wild criticisms in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. I'm all for speaking truth to power, but this is nothing moar than a bogus accusation here. I supported Obama because I wanted someone working on withdrawing from Iraq, but like Obama said, to be "as careful getting out as we were careless going in." There's nothing wrong with being prudent in foreign policy...but I want the President working towards withdrawal, and 2011 on the installment plan seems good to me. My problem with Bush was I was afraid he was working against withdrawal....like he and Cheney had an alternative motive for permanent occupation.
Am I being unfair here? Was Jon Stewart's comparison of Barack Obama and Bush when speaking of the mission of combat troops fair, despite the disparity of about a hundred thousand troops between each other's plans?
EDIT#1: To all those of you saying 'Well, it's just satire' or 'He's picking on both sides'....
Well, let's get me straight here....I like satire and, like I said, speakin' truth to power. But only when it's legit. Are you seriously saying Jon comparing Bush and Obama's actions/message is the same is a fair point? And if not, is saying 'oh it's just satire and he's picking on both sides' really a good defense? I like shows that satirically blister people, but with an apt message. Ripping on people for the sake of ripping on them with no reason and saying it's 'just humour/satire' is the way conservatives work, guys. That's weak
Jon better be careful, because if your show is nothing but bellicose attacks with no meat then pople will stop giving you credibility
