Yes, I said it. $%^& those precision-engineered, chocolate-covered bastards. Why?
Because after UBS was caught red-handed helping 47,000 Americans hide assets in secret Swiss bank accounts to avoid US taxes, the Swiss government is now backing UBS, which states that Swiss banking laws prohibit them from turning over the names of the guilty parties. Zurich even has the gall to refuse to send a representative to Congressional hearings, in protest because they're angry the IRS is suing UBS in the first place!
And to top it off, the Swiss have been doing their own government bailout of struggling UBS for months now. Is there any particular reason we need to retain good relations with Switzerland? Anyone? I doubt they receive much in the way of foreign aid from us in the first place, but at this point if they continue to hide behind archaic secrecy laws that primarily benefit Third World despots and uber-wealthy tax evaders, I'm all for treating the Swiss as a rogue nation. Or at the very least, renaming Swiss cheese to "Freedom cheese" in the Congressional cafeteria.
