Zach Wamp, Congressman from Tennessee's 3rd District - just said on MSNBC that health care is a "privilege."
That is right - according to Wamp, it is a privilege to be healthy in this country, not a right. And of course it is a major step toward socialism (I think that all Republicans are required to mention the "s" word in every TV appearance now).
When interrupted by a completly amazeed Tamron Hall (just who is medical care not a right for?), he tried to soften the comment by saying that half of all uninsured people choose to roll the dice and remain without medical insurance. Bullshit
somehow I think Wamp needs to be wamped. What a liar.
Zach Wamp is one of those Congressmen that pledged to serve only for a limited time - in his case six terms
from Wikipedia
When he was elected to the House in 1994, Wamp pledged to serve just twelve years (six terms) in the House, meaning that he would leave the House in 2007. However, shortly after winning reelection to a sixth term in 2004, Wamp announced he would run again in 2006 after all, citing his status as Tennessee's only member of the powerful Appropriations Committee. The pledge was "a mistake,"
So in other words he is a liar. And now when it comes to health care he looks at it as a privilege. When questioned what his plan would be - his answer was something like using the tax code. He claimed several times that 1/2 the people who don't have insurance roll the dice and choose not to have medical insurance - and never cites where he gets that statistic. Hall pressed and he avoided the question. I think he made it up.
Wamp further spews out the faxed talking points - it is class warfare, people are going to loose their charitable deductions, lose their mortgage deductions, lose their medicare, that the health care system is being overrun by illegal immigrants - it was the fear 101 faxed talking points.
Hall remained semi-shocked that a Congressman would go on TV and say health care is a privilege. And he never backed down. He also said that the uninsured end up in emergency rooms - which is true, but he also included those who choose not to have insurance as those that end up in the ER.
Proving once again that the GOP hates people who do make millions of dollars - Zack Wamp wants health care to be up there with owning a yacht and getting picked for the hottest club.
