Democrats in Congress are giving themselves huge bonuses, even in the middle of a recession that they helped to create by standing on the sidelines like useless bitches while Republicans plundered the middle class. 2008 was the biggest year for Congressional bonuses. After all, they deserve it right? Congress did a lot for us in 2008, right? Fixed the economy? Ended wars? Oh wait . . .
While Congress has been flaying companies for giving out bonuses while on the government dole, lawmakers have a longstanding tradition of rewarding their own employees with extra cash -- also courtesy of taxpayers.
Looks like Obama's new nominee for Health Secretary also has tax problems. It's ok if you are a member of the political elite, the laws don't apply to you, just ask Bush:
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of health and human services, said she and her husband, Gary, had paid $7,040 in back taxes and $878 in interest after discovering "unintentional errors" in their tax returns for 2005-7. Ms. Sebelius said she had erroneously taken tax deductions for certain mortgage interest and several charitable contributions.
Obama's No. 2 pick for Treasury was a guy who oversaw the writing of a law that basically is the reason why AIG was able to get so huge, and why your tax dollars, my tax dollars, and our children's tax dollars will go to pay out AIG's bailouts and bonuses.
The perfect guy to fix a problem is the guy that created the problem in the first place, right?
Mr. Wolin supervised the team of Treasury lawyers that was instrumental in drafting the landmark Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Modernization Act.
The guy who wrote Gramm-Leach-Bliley, a law that deregulated the banks and insurance companies and allowed them to rape the taxpayers for billions, is going to be No. 2 at Treasury. Ah, sweet justice!
Change you can believe in, folks! That's hope!
