Today on Easter Sunday millions of Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, an event which brought hope of new life to all the world.
President Obama you ran for our highest office on a message of hope. Your inspirational campaign was the light at the end of long tunnel of political darkness. You have accomplished so much. You are the embodiment of the American dream, rising from humble origins to become the first African-American President of the United States.
And yet, you have so much left to do. So much has been placed on your shoulders. With that in mind I pray for you today.
I pray that occupying the halls of supreme power does not change you. I pray that you stay true to those who put you there.
I pray that you have the courage to stand up to those who have brought so many into despair. That you challenge the people who have brought us to the brink of economic and moral ruin.
I pray that you show restraint. That you realize that diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiation are not signs of weakness, but signs of wisdom and strength. That instead of emphasizing what divides the world, you highlight our shared humanity.
I pray that you heed the American people's suffering. That you will do all you can to provide health care to all who need it, for without one's health there is not much else.
I pray that you will be a steward of the environment. That you can see the the destruction that has been wrought upon the planet. That you see it must be stopped before we further poison our home for future generations.
I pray that you will heed dissent and not insulate yourself from criticism. On the other hand, I pray that you balance this with a confidence in the beliefs that have brought you to this point.
Above all I pray that we, your supporters, will be able to ease your burdens, and with our spirit behind you, you will have the strength to do what is necessary.
May God bless you and your family and keep them safe. And may God bless The United States of America.
