I heard a very interesting piece last night on NPR about Jim Griffioen, a stay at home Dad living in Detroit who decided to photograph the decay and abandoned buildings in Detroit. To photograph the results of a city that used to have over 2 million residents and now has less than a million...
It was on Dick Gordon's "The Story", a great show if anyone has a chance to hear it.
Be sure to listen to the program via these links:

I tried to display the images here... but it wouldn't let me - so please go to his site to see them.
It really is incredible... incredibly sad. So much lost. So much waste.
I'm glad that the leading battery manufacturers announced that they'll be building new battery factories for hybrid and electric cars in Detroit. (Battery projects could recharge Detroit) Perhaps that will slowly bring life to that area again.
But listen to the story above - and check out the other photographs on his site.
I apologize if this has been diaried before and will probably be lost in all of the Tea Party junk today.
Check it out!
