I can't argue the history of Texas or even the political environment of Texas. Or even address the constitutionality and legal issues.
But, as a kanuck -- I can tell You -- Separatists by any name don't win National Elections.
The Quebec separatists have been at it since I was knee high to a grass hopper -- and while The Bloc does well as a regional federal party, the appetite for it is often strained by the rest of the country.
A Golden Political Opportunity
Rick Perry has delivered another Rush Limbaugh political golden egg to the Democrats. And they would be foolish to not use it. Republicans -- NOT just in Texas, but throughout the country -- should be made to declare how they stand on Rick Perry's idea of Secession. It is either another "House Divided" moment, or they will incur the disfavor of virtually every voter outside of Texas, let alone what I would guess to be the majority of citizens in Texas.
Watch the Business Community
For those having lived through the MANY years of Quebec Separation and the referendums -- can well attest to the fact that Business not only doesn't like the idea of secession, they don't even like the debate of separatism. While Texas may very well be presently a "Have" state -- one sure way to flatten their economy is to grumble about secession.
What are the Consequences
Will Texas have the US Dollar as their monetary unit. Not without the cooperation of the US Government. Trade Relationiships -- won't apply to any country that has established trade agreements with the US -- namely Canada and Mexico -- and this just might well affect the oil patch, don't You think? US Passport -- um, sorry ... those are for US Citizens. Separatists rarely think much about the consequences of ACTUAL separation rather than the rhetoric.
Secessionists are UN-AMERICAN
Sorry, there is no other way to put it -- it is by definition a reality.
So, for my own curiousity I am including a poll. I personally think that the Democratic Party should use the secessionist fiasco as another Rush Limbaugh golden egg, what Say You?
