Today is probably a holy day for Yankees fans the world over (Hi Keith!); Dad is probably lighting candles for the occasion, and he's not even Catholic! ;D Mickey Mantle made his major league baseball debut with the Yankees on this date in 1951.
And on an uplifting note, the astronauts of Apollo 13 splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean on this date in 1970, four days after a ruptured oxygen tank crippled their spacecraft. This segment of BBC coverage from back then is pretty interesting!
Truly, the whole world was watching & praying for those brave astronauts!
Let's Countdown.
David Shuster "pinch hit" for Keith tonight – thanks! I hope Keith’s just at a baseball game or spending time with his family or something.
#5 "Waterboarding is Torture" AKA "Bush Torture Tactics" AKA "Legacy of Torture" AKA "The Torture Test" - President Obama has found himself in a dilly of a pickle since the release of the "torture memos" yesterday. "The right," once again, is claiming that he’s put our nation at risk by exposing our "techniques." "The left" doesn’t like his statement that anyone who "interrogated enhancely" but believed they were following a legal order wouldn’t be prosecuted. Michael Hayden, former CIA director, and Michael Mukasey, former AG, wrote a "lovely" op – ed. Well, of course they did. They’re pi$$ed because they’re claiming that releasing the memos prevent future Presidents from using those "techniques." GOOD! That was the whole damn idea! Their claims that waterboarding was used infrequently is disputed in the memos themselves; I knew that before David Shuster even said it because I’ve read 3 of the 4 memos! Good Gawd, there’s GWB. Ugh...I wasn’t expecting to see him tonight! Jonathan Turley was on Rachel Maddow’s show last night; tonight, he’s here. I can’t exactly say I’m shocked. An "unnamed GWB official" said these "techniques" worked. NO...THEY...DID...NOT! Professor Turley wants a special prosecutor real bad; so do I. Wow, Professor Turley believes that AG Holder reversed "the Nuremberg defense" & then some! OUCH! Matthew Alexander is back; what he says will be damn interesting. Our country’s "enhanced interrogation techniques" have done wonders for AQ recruitment, according to Mr. Alexander. Gee...thanks? Holy crap, the AQ guy who decided to cooperate with Mr. Alexander said he decided to do so because Mr. Alexander treated him & his religion with respect, and the AQ guy then knew what he’d been told about America was horse – hockey. Wow... OK, is Boss Limbaugh or any other ilk of his kind going to call Mr. Alexander a phony soldier?! Mr. Alexander proposed using "intellect." Well, hell, THERE was our problem! The occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania & in said occupants’ DOJ thought intellect was elite! Ya’ gotta go with your guts & what God himself tells you – remember?! AUGH!!
#4 "Conservative Tea Bagging" AKA "Hot Tea" AKA "Tea Leaves" - John "Small Price to Pay" Boehner wants to "embrace" tea baggers. Well, OK! If there is a Mrs. "Small Price to Pay" Boehner, do you think she’ll approve? WHOA! Check out GOP Consultant Doug Bailey’s comment!
It is particularly ineffective for the Republican Party when it is Rush Limbaugh and the likes stirring it up. That just doesn’t speak to the middle.
HELLO?! We’ll get that apology from Mr. Bailey in 5...4...3...2... Eugene Robinson & Arianna Huffington are afraid that a message of President Obama being too soft on banks could take root. Hells bells, GWB wasn’t too soft on the banks?! I think I’m more afraid of the violent crack – pot aspect will take even deeper root, and that more people are going to get hurt or be killed.
** A goat walks into a California restaurant... A guy in TX was arrested for driving a steamroller under the influence. Maybe, he was tring to secede? **
#3 "Palintosis" AKA "Baby Talk" - Good f*ckin’ grief, do we really need a whole damn segment about Grandma Gov. TurkeyLover invading my fair state yesterday?! Must I be reminded of this fact yet again??!! EEEEEeeeeeWWWWWWWwwwwww! Thankfully, Evansville, IN is in the southwest part of the state a good distance away from Indianapolis, but still...she...was...in...my...damn...state. Time to bring out the Lysol, disinfectant, purification rituals, & exorcists. OK, we "went blue" in 2008, we gave the nation David Letterman, we gave the nation John Mellencamp, people seem to like the Indianapolis 500 & the Brickyard 400, we gave the nation Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. OK...feeling a little better... WTF was all her Alaska shtick last night? Is she trying to get "Hoosiers" to move there?! Well, actually, I can think of a few "Hoosiers" I wouldn’t mind shipping up there. She said there were no "accidents." Bristol’s little "surprise" wasn’t an "accident"? Once again, David Shuster made the great point that Grandma Gov. TurkeyLover seeks to rid women of the choice that she herself was allowed to make when she learned that her little boy was going to have Down’s Syndrome. While "that woman" was here, her GOP – dominated legislature back home said "thanks but no thanks" to her AG choice, Wayne Ross. And, doesn’t Mr. Ross sound like a lovely gentleman?! [insert upchucking sound here] I know this scenario is unlikely, but wouldn’t it just be a damn hoot if "that woman" decided to run for Governor again, and she f*ckin’ lost??!! My...my...my... At least these days, it doesn’t sound like many of the ‘ol folks back home are too thrilled with her. I wonder why she was so popular in Alaska before she became Senator McCentury’s running mate? Is everyone in Alaska as much of a crack – pot as she is, or did her crack – pottyness (just made up that word) come to light only during the campaign, and what her constituents saw they didn’t like?
#2 "Crossing the Aisle" - Steve Schmidt, one of Senator McCentury’s campaign operatives, spoke out IN FAVOR of gay marriage today in our nation’s capital. WTF?! Mr. Schmidt has a gay sister. Well golly, maybe Newt Gingrich should spend some quality time with Mr. Schmidt. Newt may learn a little damn compassion then! Gawd damn, did y’all see what he said today?! That was a GOPer that said that??!! Lordy, whatever will Boss Limbaugh have to say about him? Oh my, Stephen Colbert’s "ad" was f*ckin’ HILARIOUS!
#1 "Conservative Tea Bagging" AKA "This Week in Teabagging" - Here we have a week in review in tea bagging. GOODY! Bring on the adolescent juvenile humor! ;D David Shuster should be very proud of his efforts; he was freakin’ BRILLIANT! Yes, Keith did OK, too. ;D BILLO TOOK ISSUE WITH MSNBC’S COVERAGE? Well, just paint me shocked. And, lord knows he should be preaching about the evils of sexual innuendos & double entendres. Oh...oh...oh... I DID NOT NEED TO HEAR BILLO READING PORTIONS OF HIS BOOK ABOUT GETTING PIPES UP! Where’s the f*ckin’ earplugs?!
Thank goodness! ;D
