Democrats are now the Oppressors and Republicans, the Oppressed. You know, I read some diaries sometimes about how kossacks genuinely feel that republicans are a threat so they perpetuate this fearmongering about these right-wing radical terrorist groups (sound familiar?) are a threat to Homeland Security. Then I read these kinds of articles and think, gee, why wouldn't they be concerned about their liberty?
As someone who knows no boundries and sometimes likes to do political activist work on behalf of civil liberties within both parties, I'd have to say that I've genuinely seen a transformation within the grassroots of the republican party now that it's been out of power and the concern over civil liberties is real. I want my liberties protected so when liberals attack conservatives about their potential threat as terrorists, I feel a need to defend them so that I may be protected too. They do have a legitimate right to free speech and If I recall correctly, There were over 200,000 protesters out at these tea parties and I can't find a single report of violence anywhere. If you can, I'd love to here about it. Compare that with what happened at the G20 in Britain.
I know nobody here wants there to be violence and the easiest way to prevent violence is to not incite any yourself so here's an easy to make sure that you don't personally get involved in something dangerous. If everyone in the country did it, I think the violence would just go away.
Everybody just say to yourselves this:
I am not afraid.
Right-wing nutjobs can continue to spew all of their racist, homophobic, violent hate speech. I have no interest in trying to censor it because I am not afraid of it.
Left-wing socialists can continue to implement whatever radical impoverishing central planning boondoggles they can come up with. I have no interest in trying to fight it because I am not afraid of it.
Islamic fundamentalist terrorists can continue to brandish their AK-47's and climb on monkey bars and chant death to America in the streets on the other side of the world. I have no interest in trying to bomb them because I am not afraid of it.
Our oppressive government can continue to torture prisoners and tap our phone lines and crush our freedom. I have no interest in trying to take control of it because I am not afraid of it.
Mexican drug cartels can continue to fight drug enforcement agents and behead the police officers who fight this stupid war on drugs. I have no interest in trying to blockade it because I am not afraid of it.
There are an infinite number of crazy, murderous thugs of all kinds of groups that we can all choose to be afraid of, and thus become pawns of the insanity that perpetuates it. The other option is though, that we can just have respect for our fellow man. If we just jettison our fear for a little while and try to put things into perspective, We might realize that there really isn't a whole lot to fear in the first place. I'd like to share with all of you this final scene from the movie Zeitgeist because it is a great description of what I'm really talking about.
