In what might be the funniest piece of Southern based comedy since the golden age of 1960s redneck comedies (Hee Haw, Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, etc.), watch as a group of South Carolina teabaggers go apeshit and let the hootin' and hollerin' fly as their congressman, Rep. Gresham Barrett, tries to appease the unruly horde at a local teabag rally.
The crowd is seen here reacting to the fact that Barrett had voted in favor of the $700 billion bailout. This, of course, raises the question as to why this two faced rep would appear at a teabag rally if he had voted for a stimulus bill. Opportunistic politics, anyone? Unfortunatly for Barrett, sometimes politics as usual blows up in one's face.
One of the things that is textbook about this clip is that Barrett is shown here, unconvincingly, trying to deflect the hostility of the crowd onto the usual scapegoats, i.e., the French, Obama and the "liberal Democrats with their porkbarrel spending" plans. Also, some red meat faux-sympathy for "our veterans" in the mentioning of Homeland Security and its report - a legitimate concern by DHS, if you ask me, given the examples of McVeigh and the violent militia extremists - about right-wing extremism.
Overall, though, this clip offers us both a good, hearty dose of schadenfreude and yet another glimpse of the ugly side of Fox News fueled mobocracy.
