Today former President Clinton appeared in Roanoke, Va. at a rally for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. According to the Roanoke Times, there was a crowd of about 250 in attendance.
What's more interesting than the size of the crowd are the number of donors McAuliffe has in the area.
He's obviously got a lot of support in Roanoke County.
There are even more supporters in Roanoke City.
Then there's nearby Montgomery County.
There's one donor in Franklin County. (But I love these guys.)
I checked the other cities and counties nearby Roanoke, and McAuliffe hasn't raised any money from people in Salem City, Floyd County, Botetourt County, Craig County or Bedford County. (At least not any donations above $100 which must be reported in disclosure filings.)
Given that this region of the state was one of the strongest areas for Hillary Clinton's campaign which McAuliffe so strongly backed, I assumed that there would be a better turnout for him today. I certainly expected that McAuliffe would have raised more money from the Roanoke Valley.
No wonder he has had to raise 82% of his funds from places other than Virginia.
