Second Life has been harshly criticized, for everything from major corporate marketing incursions and spam, to annoying wannabe "enterprising" Babbits and Land Barons, Griefers, Gorians, etc. etc.
But many educational and political organizing groups are also using SL to develop a virtual line and practice, for justice and peace, to save the planet. With millions of participants in SL from all over the world, communication and political education campaigns have some real potential here, and have substantially supplemented RL (real life) activities and actions.
Progressive groups in SL have banded together to cross-promote this Earth Week Festival in SL, which has been put together by a broad coalition of environmental groups and other social justice elements.
Some other contacts and tips, for those who want to check out Second Life, after the jump.
One excellent Group in SL is SLLU, Second Life Left Unity. While initiated by Scottish Socialist Party, this group has demonstrated very successful broad appeal across all left sectarian lines, without seeking hegemony, or allowing struggles for hegemony to prevail, an unusual accomplishment.
This is not to say that internal theoretical struggle has not occurred, heh, but it has not prevailed over solidarity, practical action, mutual aid and cooperation.
This is a deep subject...and SL seems a viable venue for working these kinds of things out.
Many other RL formations are also involved in SL, including dkos, which has it's own presence called RootsNation.
