The 1st to the 3rd:
This week ASU gets some federal stimulus cash for energy research as well as deciding on a $300 surcharge per semester to make up for the lack of leadership in the Ariz. Legislature. The United States Department of Justice has officially began an investigation into the MCSO. Kyrene school district wants condom instructions included in health curriculum. The state GOP is so dispatched from reality that they don’t even know what’s going one in the capitol anymore.
ASU Gets Stim cash while state GOP laughs in faces of Students:
Arizona State University has won a grant from the ARPA, promising $14 million over 5 years for research into solar energy with a biology twist:
The ASU center, with its focus on bio-inspired solar fuel production, will build on existing research at the school into solar energy and the chemistry of photosynthesis, the process of plants converting sunlight into energy.
This is why ASU is so important to The Valley and Arizona; it is a major research hub in the region, if not west coast of the nation, creating new technologies and high wage jobs for Arizona. But state conservatives were salivating at the thought of slashing funding for the three state institutions; Legislature cut their funding by 20 percent (that’s not fat of the top, that’s a straight gutting), or $190 million, claiming the universities had too much money to begin with. Forcing the schools to plan an increase in tuition and charge an ‘economic recovery surcharge’ just to keep needed jobs. Glad to see Jan Brewer cares;
...Brewer left before the tuition-surcharge vote but said on her way out of the meeting that she is concerned about skyrocketing costs.
"There’s a huge outcry that college is becoming unaffordable," she said.
Earth to Brewer...You’re the one who signed the f’ing budget!! Loser. Don’t come out against these surcharges if you’re a major factor that put the reasons in place. It’s great to see the state GOP playing coi with the univerity’s student’s futures and lives:
I’m going to have to pick up another job, said Sarah Atwill, an 18-year-old ASU sophomore who works two part-time jobs to pay tuition and other expenses.
Sheriff Joe Show, Season 4:
The USDoJ has begun it’s investigation into the MCSO for racial profiling;
At least half a dozen investigators with the U.S. Justice Department arrived at Arpaio’s downtown Phoenix office about 9:30 Thursday morning.
Joe isn’t afraid, as well he shouldn’t be, Joe’s got too many friends in this state;
This is a badge of honor, Arpaio said of the investigation. We don’t racial profile, so let them come down. I welcome them. We are not giving in to them.
I don’t know how many times I have to repeat this to my family and friends, the immigrants crossed a federal border thus; immigration enforcement is the federal government’s job, had the citizens of Pima County crossed the Maricopa County border, it’d be a county problem. But the US constitution being the way it is, crossing local borders is A’ok. Thus; protecting the citizens of a county, not immigration enforcement, is a sheriff’s job. Now if Joe claims that he is protecting the county by targeting immigrants...definition of racial profiling.
Kyrene School District Progresses on Health Education:
Kyrene middle schoolers will learn about the condom next spring as part of a new health curriculum the district’s governing board adopted on Tuesday.
It’s only been proven on several occasions that abstinence only education doesn’t work. Contrary to what many interpret from the latter comment; It’s not the act of abstinence that doesn’t work, it’s that when abstinence only the system taught, the lack of real sex-education from all spectrums results in unwanted pregnancies and STDs.
Abstinence is ideal, but unfortunately it’s been proven time and time again not to work," Denham wrote, "I believe it should be part of the education, and those parents who don’t wish to have their children involved can choose to not sign the sex ed permission form.
It’s good to see school districts moving forward with progressive agendas in their health classes.
State GOP Proves Agian They’re Hacks:
What a bunch of losers;
A hearing planned on a proposal to take $210 million from the impact fees that cities charge developers for infrastructure was postponed.
[State] Senate GOP leaders couldn’t say why.
"I’m not sure," said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Gray, R-Mesa.
House Leader Kirk Adams, R-Mesa, said one of the parties that was going to testify wasn’t ready - but he didn’t know which one.
House Appropriations Chairman John Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills, said home builders were still working out the presentation details and that the hearing might occur next week.
