I'm a member of the Women's Edge Coalition (Ari Fleischer Memorial Technicality Mention: I was a member when I could afford the dues). Anyway I still get their newsletter. The most recent one came today and it is concentrated on trade issues, but from a perspective that I haven't much heard in the Democratic campaigns. There's a really good summary analysis of what the "failed" WTO talks in Cancun, a subject that has barely turned up here. I guess no one feels that event has much bearing or impact on US Presidential campaigns, but it still surprises me.
They have an FTAA action on going calling for research an analysis of impacts of trade before agreements are signed. The tag line in the blurb really caught my eye, though:
Now, more than ever, it is crucial that poor people's needs are included in trade negotations.
It reminded me of Meteor Blades' recent post about what the GDP doesn't do. Maybe we are getting closer to "An Economy as if People Mattered"? Little bits of pressure/talk are is coming from domestic and international points alike.
