From a Glenn Beck special last Friday titled "The Civilest of Wars":
Transcript:
Gun sales are going up through the roof.
And let me tell you something, I really truly believe the reason why -- a lot of Americans aren't paying attention to this -- is because they...does anybody remember the poem, you know, first they came for the Jews and I didn't stand up because I wasn't a Jew? Do you know that -- from Germany?
In the end, I think this is the problem. First, they came for the banks. I wasn't a banker. I didn't really care. I didn't stand up and say anything.
Then they came for the AIG executives. Then they came for the car companies -- and I didn't say anything.
Until it gets down to you -- most people don't see they are coming for you at some point. You're on the list. Everybody's on the list.
Beck keeps on saying he's not interested in inciting violence. But how can anybody take him seriously when he says people are buying guns to defend themselves from a government that he compares to Nazi Germany -- a government that he says "is coming for you."
Like any fantasy, Beck's is grounded in some truth. Gun sales are up, but much of the 30% increase over last April has been fueled by irrational and unfounded fears that the Obama Administration plans sweeping new gun control measures -- fears spread by the likes of Glenn Beck.
Beck, however, is saying that people are buying guns to defend themselves from a government that is actively targeting American citizens. That's just craziness, more evidence that Beck is a conspiracy theory troll.
Unfortunately, troll though he may be, he's got an audience of nearly two million people eager to share his delusional view of the world.
