Who will get the most votes in tonight’s American Idol finale?
Leather-clad, finger-nail painted Adam Lambert and clean-cut Christian singer Kris Allen have reportedly become good friends – and while Lambert has been a long-time favorite, Allen has already stumped the critics by making it to the finals.
Today’s LA Times makes the case that that America has already won, as finalists Lambert and Allen help illustrate how people with cultural differences can make beautiful music together. And who gets some of the credit for that? Your POTUS.

The friendship between the two finalists suggests that tolerance can trump ideology, a powerful sentiment that echoes President Obama's suggestion that bridging differences could be more effective than trying to eradicate them.
"This is part of the spirit and ethos of an America after Obama. His whole rhetoric fits into the desires of our political culture after such a divisive period. And that's also playing itself out on 'Idol,' " said Karen Tongson, an assistant professor of English and gender studies at USC.
I was surprised to see President Obama’s name come up in connection with an American Idol story, but just goes to show how leaders can lead by example. (Notre Dame anyone?)
But to be honest, tonight I will leave dKos and politics aside and just enjoy the show. Lambert has definitely been the most entertaining week in and week out, but it’s been clear for eight weeks (to me anyone) that Allen was the one with a chance to pull off the upset.
Last week, Lambert and Allen were only separated by a million votes.
Now with Danny Gokey eliminated, my guess is that more of his fans will choose Allen, as Lambert has been such a dominant force for so long. But that can all change tonight. The winner will be announced... after the break.
