The republican party, in it's drive to reinvent itself, are voting on a resolution to condemn the democratic party's march toward socialism. It's hard to understand their penchant to toss about scary words, like an angry monkey with access to large amounts of feces, but I suppose we should take a look at their take on really scary words.
The republican party has a bizarre fascination with them. Ever since Joseph McCarthy screamed "Communists!", They've seemed to latch on to really scary words, and it's pretty much their running platform. If it's not communists, it's taxes, or socialism, or terrorists.
So now, we're marching towards socialism. Here's a really scary thought. That everybody would be able go go to a doctor, and be treated the same. That a poor person has as much of a right to a heart transplant, as rich people. That thought just terrifys me. A country where people are guaranteed the basics of life - a place to live, enough to eat. Fucking scandalous. Just think about a nation where you can't gouge people, so you can buy a cottage in the Hamptons, while ensuring the gouged can't afford to pay for prescriptions, where yet more gouging gives yet more worthy people, vacations in Aruba. This scares me so badly, I just wet myself.
And to convolute things even more, there's plenty of scary words that they get rid of, to do scary things. Torture would be a good example. That's pretty scary. But not when you call it enhanced interrogation, then it's just batman, or Jack Bauer asking questions, of obviously guilty bad people. And we all know that republicans and batman never make mistakes, so you're guaranteed to only hurt or kill bad evil people.
Which brings us to terrorists. That's a really scary word too. But I'm having difficulty with the transformation from freedom fighters, to terrorists. I seem to remember that Ronnie Reagan called the Mujahideen freedom fighters, and now, since we're at war with them, they've somehow been transformed into terrorists. Maybe republican's have difficulty understanding that people who enjoy chopping heads off, and blowing up military vehicles really don't care who's heads get chopped off, or what insignia is on the military vehicles they blow up.
Maybe we should rething passing out weapons and training to people who just can't wait to start killing other people. There's the distinct possibility that doing this could bite us in the ass. Again. Because, some day, when these people figure out we just want them to kill and blow up OTHER people, they'll think we're really bad people, come over here, and blow us up.
I suppose the republican's better pray they never figure that out, or we could be in serious danger.
And that's really scary.
