I'm sorry it took me so long to post a follow-up diary to my diary about my Grandfather. The response was just so overwhelming to my diary, plus I had the hindrance of having my internet access cut off for over a week just after I posted my original diary that I didn't even get all your kind and thoughtful messages to my Grandfather sorted, printed, and mailed until early last week.
More below....
Anyway, I received a hand-written letter from my Grandfather just yesterday and I wanted to share with all of you some of what he had to say....
You must have said some real nice things about old grandpa to get such nice responses.
...I only shared my real feelings and all you amazing Kossacks did the rest! :-)
My neighbor seems to be getting a lot more civilized, thank heavens. We don't do anything together , just say "hi" and go our own way.
...I am so glad to know that the neighbor is no longer taking his political frustrations out on my Grandfather.
Betty and I are solid democrats and I really think Obama is a great guy and will be a wonderful president.
... I am so glad that his neighbor's crazed outburst hasn't deterred him from stating his political views. Also, Betty is my Grandfather's current wife (she's not my Grandmother) and I had the privilege of going along with my Grandfather on his first date with Betty when I was only 9 years old, many, many years ago.....that's a very fond memory of mine, and I am so glad to have it.
I am still working on getting down to North Carolina to visit my Grandfather in person (and mum is the word because I want it to be a surprise for him) since my brother bailed on me this past weekend (it's a very unfortunate habit of his) as my travel buddy, but I do have a dear girlfriend who is working on getting someone to care for her three kids so she can travel with me thanks to all you generous and caring Kossacks.
I don't have the writing skills to express what everything you guys did means to me, but I hope you know that it means everything to me, and I will never forget it.
Great big ((((HUGS)))) to all of you for everything you've done,
Peace.
