Well, I just started a new job yesterday. And it seems that someone on the
staff feels that they can casually and idly make threats against the President. Follow me through the jump to learn the details...
I just started a new job yesterday and it was a bit hectic learning the
ropes and what not. Today was a new day and there were faces to meet, of
course.
One of the guys I met today seemed to be a jovial and easygoing fellow. Diligent, fastidious, and really dedicated to doing a good job, this person really shone in terms of making sure every task was completed expertly and was doing a good job showing me the ropes.
Then, during a lull, we started talking about crime which turned to a
discussion on guns. I told him I'd read where alot of times, some people
purchase guns but don't familiarize themselves with standard operating
procedures and then those very guns wind up being used against them in the
case of a break-in or home invasion.
The co-worker then began to tell me that he owned several guns and that "the President better not try to take away our guns or he'll be dead." And so began a five minute rant from him about just how evil President Obama is ("at least McCain didn't want to outlaw guns") and then he closed with "...and I'm just saying - I have an uncle who's not afraid to go to prison".
I was floored. I know that, per diaries and blogs, we've been seeing a rise in this type of heated language but to actually see and hear it in person is a totally different thing. It was a sickening and scary thing to hear and I couldn't believe it. It shook me to my core.
So after eating an early dinner, I thought I'd just get some feedback from
my wonderful fellow Kossacks. Should I pick up the phone and call the
Secret Service? I know this is a new job and all but I feel like if I
don't do anything I'm merely allowing threats like that to continue
unabated and if that occurs, who knows what other irrational thoughts
that person might have?
