I'm not joking: this is an actual thing.
I think she's a great candidate. Now, I started to write a bunch of pornstar jokes about her candidacy and the shared experiences she might have as a Senator that she's already had to deal with in her life ("getting the shaft", har har) and then realized that wasn't the right thing to do here. I think the right thing to do is to say - without belittling her or her candidacy - that she is qualified to run for Senate. In the interviews she has done so far, she's been eloquent and makes no qualms about her past. In addition, she's in a unique situation because not only can she in many ways legitimize an industry that has more oversight for their underlying risk factors (STDs) than the banking industry, she can also use her past life as a pornstar to say, "What I did was legal, what David Vitter did was illegal" over and over again until the electorate finally agrees.
More over, she's charming. This might seem like a given considering that she's in an industry where sex is a commodity, but c'mon: do any of us really think that Teagan Presley could run for Senate and not sound like an absolute ditz? Instead, Stormy presents herself as somebody who had a unique viewpoint on the world, can discuss the issues and can handle the debate. Not once in those interviews did she seem as though she wasn't in complete control of the situation. In the game of expectations, she's surpassed those low expectations profoundly and that can only be a positive moving forward. Plus, much like Obama, her past isn't a negative for her. That she's open about her past life and doesn't feel any shame for the way she acted makes it very difficult for her opponents to use that against her. If a Republican smear campaign against Ms. Daniels is predicated simply on "She used to have sex on film", I think they're going to fail. Even in Louisiana, and especially against David Vitter.
With regards to her stance on the issues, she says she's still forming her opinions based on what she hears from the people on the listening tour. What does strike me, however, is this: she's from Hollywood and worked in an industry that was constantly vilified by the right as destroying America. If nothing else comes from that, my bet is that even should she run as a Republican (currently she has no declared party) she'll be a moderate to liberal-leaning Republican.
But this may just be my opinion. Any else have a rebuttal?
I had to make one sex joke.
