Just got back from the Star Trek movie. I checked to see if there was a midnight show out here in Cali, and what a surprise...they opened it tonight. We missed the 7:00 show, but breezed right into the 9:00 best couple of hours I've spent at a movie theater in a looonnnngggg time.
I'm actually not the Star Trek fan in this house but because I live with one, I've been exposed to enough material to know that what I just saw was a seriously good time.
Some thoughts on my experience...
The best things about the new Star Trek movie:
The uniforms look great.
The farewell kiss between Spock and Uhura is steamier than any cliche high nudity movie sex scene in recent memory.
Spock rocks.
Leonard Nimoy has truly lived long and prospered.
Bones nails it.
Scotty is better than ever.
Chekov as the 17-year-old wunderkind is delightful.
The plot is fantastic...it isn't a prequel.
The special effects were astounding.
Did I mention that I just loved Spock?
The final scene...WOW...what a great fucking movie.
Things I didn't like so much, but the movie still kicks ass so they didn't ruin it for me:
Sulu....eh (shrugs) he was just kind of there.
Why do fight scenes have to drag on for so fucking long? How many punches to the head am I really supposed to believe a person can take?
Why do the scary monster chase scenes have to drag on for so fucking long? How many stumbles and falls down hillsides am I supposed to believe one person can make and still not get eaten?
Enough with the prolonged fight scenes already. Jesus Christ.
Go see this movie. Take your kids (kind of violent for younger kids, did I mention there are a lot of prolonged fight scenes?). Even if you know nothing about Star Trek this is still a great movie.
