This weekend, as we all know, is a time to honor our Mother's on a day specifically set aside for her only. Her day should be surrounded with all of those who wish to celebrate her with flowers, a nice cooked meal or just lending her an ear.
She has had the hardest job in the world and has toiled at it with great dignity and class.
More after the fold....
I am one of those fortunate people who still has their Mother. She turned 79 in March and was a widow at the age of 30. In each of the last 3 decades I have asked her why she has never remarried and she has always given me the same answer. Her response...."to busy raising you kids and working at the plant to find a boyfriend."
Later on she would find a job at the local hardware store and became quite an expert on naming those little gadgets which I have no clue what their use is for.
She eventually decided she wanted to pursue her dream and that was to become a teacher. She enrolled in night classes and after 7 years she earned her degree in Early Childhood Development and worked for the Headstart program. She finally became the 'teacher' she always wanted to be but always put her family first. All three of us were at her college graduation. I've never been more proud of her than at that time.
I usually watch the Sunday news shows, doing my usual channel surfing because the dialogue level is past zero and none can keep my attention for to long. I sure do miss Mr. Russert. Besides, why would I want to listen to George Will echoing the same as the other rightwing blowhards I hear during the week? Or watching David Gregory have a harsh debate with a liberal then not counterpointing a conservative?
Even more so, this Sunday's shows look more like a revolutionary tour than anything else so why would I want to miss spending it with someone who is alot more interesting and honest?
Senator John McCain will be on ABC's "This Week." He must still think he's on the campaign trail. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will be on "Fox News Sunday." And former Vice President Dick Cheney will be on "Face the Nation" on CBS. ("Face the Nation" confirmed that Cheney would be getting the full half hour.) More reason to turn that tv set off!
Why in the hell is he even given a platform??
So in saying all that, I urge every one of the kos family members to take the day off from the television set. Spend it with your mothers, and if you no longer have your mother, spend it with your Dad. He's the closest thing there is to her.
Happy Mother's Day
