I'd just like to share this audio that's high up there in "News & Politics" on Youtube now where Bill Donohue dismisses a new report which talks about the abuse against children in Catholic churches in Ireland.
What I find maddening about this audio is it sounds exactly like how a Republican would defend torture, or warrant-less wiretapping, or Iraq, or any of the other 10,000 Republican scandals of the last 10 years. This sort of endless defense of the worst possible human behavior seems epidemic among some large minority of the influential. I'd be interested to get a psycologist's take on how these people get to such high profile positions in life without someone at some point realizing they will defend any horrible act for money and/or status.
Part II after the jump.
Apologies if this was already diaried.
I admit that I'm not Christian, so I don't want to offend anyone by including my own personal opinions about the church. Nonetheless I do think it's interesting that Donahue's defense seems ridden with exactly the kind of ignorance which caused the child abuse scandal to erupt in the first place.
