I've contacted my senators about supporting the "public option" in any upcoming Health Care reform legislation. I've also written to senators outside of my home state, who I supported in the federal election.
Here are my emails -
Dear Senator Gillibrand,
I forward you this email, sent to Senator Landrieu of Louisiana, as an indication of how strongly the American people feel about the inclusion of a "public option" in the upcoming Health Care reform legislation.
I have sent emails such as these to many senators outside of my home state of New York. Many people residing outside of these Senators' home states worked for their election and now want them to put into effect the promises made by President Obama during his campaign, and supported by a vast majority of the American people.
Please read the email, below, and help bring us the Health Care system we all want. Anything less will be a betrayal of our will - voiced so clearly in the election of President Obama - and will ensure that those who perpetrated or facilitated this betrayal will feel the negative ramifications in their next bid for re-election.
Respectfully,
AA and Family
Dear Senator Landrieu,
As a resident of New York, I contributed to the national campaign to elect as many Democratic senators as possible, all over the country, in the last federal election.
I did this in order to ensure that if President Obama was elected, he would have the backing in the Senate to push forward his agenda - the agenda that he has now been elected to implement.
Now I read that you are standing in the way of his agenda by opposing the "public option" in the upcoming proposed health reform legislation.
I see this as no less than a betrayal of the overwhelming need and stated will of the American people, who overwhelmingly support this "public option", and I fear it can only be seen as the Democrats - you, unfortunately among them - putting the interest of insurance companies over the well being of the people.
I will no longer support Senators such as yourself if you pursue this path. Indeed, I will work whole heartedly against your re-election, as you have worked against my interests in undermining this very strong mandate to include a "public option" in this important legislation.
Please support President Obama's stated goal to include a public option, without a so-called "trigger" in this upcoming legislation.
We need you to work on our behalf, and not on behalf of the moneyed interest of the insurance companies who have led us to this catastrophic place.
Yours sincerely,
AA and family.
