There has been a lot of arguing over elements of the upcoming health care reform plan. Frankly, the debate is over. The only thing left is to see if the Democratic Party has the nerve to get things done.
The debate over a public health care option is over. How do I know this?
I know this because every single time any of the talking heads come on (whether network analysts or guests)and argue against the public option, I immediately turn the channel. So I know for a fact it is over for me and I believe I am not the only one having this reaction to cable news.
I believe the public feels that those arguing against the public option are concerned about their constituency not the public interest...and since this argument has gone on for decades, sooner or later people turn off their ears - that is what is going on today - the debate is over, we simply will not listen to those arguing against a public option.
The Democratic Party better pay attention - victory is now defined as whether or not the legislation contains A TRUE PUBLIC OPTION - people will not be duped into something that is anything less, even if by name it is a public option.
So, the debate is over. But the arguing is going to continue for a while. Especially since Obama believes ( and rightly so) that everyone should have their say.
The real issue now is if the Democratic Party has the nerve - I don't think ordinarily that they do, but in this case Obama and and public will not let them worm their way out of it - Oh no, this time the Party must face a tough issue and do what is right...I believe they will get there..for to do otherwise is to fail while in control of all levers of power - this would be too disappointing to witness - it will not happen.
A public option must come forward - the debate is over...time to turn the channel again cause here comes one of those talking heads against the public option.
