Chris Dodd will be on a conference call tonight at 6 PM Eastern to discuss the HELP Committee's progress and what citizens can do to fight back against the insurance lobby.
The call is sponsored by SEIU, Change that Works, Families USA, Communication Workers of America, and Doctors for America - a much better group than the AMA.
I know Dodd has taken a lot of heat for his cozy relationship with the banking industry. But I do want to point out, as Steven Pearlstein has done, that TARP was a loan and that 10 banks have already paid back some of the debt. We could be celebrating.
As the Daschle-Dole-Baker three-headed hydra captured some news attention yesterday, and Dole/Baker convinced Daschle (isn't that 2 against 1 GOP v. Dem? That's not how the Senate is today...) to back off ANY public option, Daschle suggested that appeasement is the best option.
The thing is, not only is Daschle out of Congressional leadership (remember that election we had?), he's still pretty well-connected in the lobbying industry.
Dodd, on the other hand, still has a job. And it looks like he's trying to keep it.
