British Airways has recently asked their 30,000 employees to volunteer - or take a leave for one month.
That is a beginning.
I believe that all employees globally -- in both the corporate and non-profit sectors -- should designate August as Give Back Month.
The world needs to catch its breath. If all of us gave our employers a one-month break, the world would save trillions.
Or, if that is too hard to stomach, simply take a month break volunteer your help anywhere there is need – a food pantry, homeless shelter, environmental project – the list is endless.
It would be enough to jump-start our global economy in time for the fall’s rebound.
If enough of us give back, our economy will begin to show marked signs of improvement by the end of September.
No politician -- except perhaps Barack Obama -- is strong enough to ask their citizens to make such a staggering commitment.
Adrianna has called for an organized attempt to give back in her HuffPo blog, All for Good: A New "Craigslist for Service."
But I think we need to go further - the situation is so severe it demands more from us.
To get our world back on track, give back. Make this August Give Back Month. Take the month off, unpaid, and relax -- or better, yet -- volunteer your labors.
Greed from the multinationals and Wall Street have brought us to where we are, no question. Their demise is humanity’s fall.
It is up to us -- good citizens of the world -- to fix their mess. This August. Give back!
