I'm not irrational right now. Even though the title of my post would indicate that I am. I think I'm just starting to see things more clearly right now. I am crossroads right now and I thing a whole generation is to and this crossroad is health-care policy.
Let me explain. you see my generation is a extremely reasonable generation. We strive for cooperation on everything we are pretty laid back and we don't like to argue about things that have been argued about for 50 years. We rather see what common ground can be found and concentrate on expanding that common ground. We are extremely pragmatic just like our president thats why even though most of us support single payer we compromised and threw our support behind Obama anyway. Because it would be dumb to let the perfect get in the way and be the enemy of the good so we supported a public option instead. We came out an voted in droves and we gave the democrats super majorities. All the pundits on TV Agreed even the republicans agreed with 60 votes democrats could get the legislation passed that would implement the type of change that only young blurry-eyed Idealist dreamed about. We were going to do what I parents only talked about. And what is really strange is even though we are not like our parents we are a lot like our grandparents we were standing in the currents of history and we were determined to change the course to a better direction. I'm starting believe we might have been a little too optimistic and I'm not talking bout who we voted for. But about the impact of our vote and the importance of the election itself. We were told by everybody who was anybody how important this election was and how this was the most important election in years and we believed the hype. You see we usually are extremely cynical but this time we actually believed voting could make real change happen. Let me make this clear the problem isnt the president we chose or a couple senators or congressman. the problem is the system itself has become corrupted. and this problem cant be fixed by people in the system no matter how well intentioned they might be. I hope I'm overreacting to the the tea leaves but that seems to not be the case. I hope I'm wrong but if the democrats cant get real health care reform passed with 60 seats in the senate and the presidency under their control then I think it might be time to throw in the towel and except this system for what it is and concentrate on improving the lives of people in close proximity to me. and maybe its time to abandon the dreams of a health care for all. Maybe its time to grow up. But don't feel sorry for us we can adapt I told you we are pretty pragmatic. There is a thin line though between being pragmatic and selling-out and I think we are getting pretty close to doing the latter. Just my thoughts though.
