This Wednesday, teens in West Palm Beach, Florida will take a major step for youth civil liberties. The National Youth Rights Association (NYRA) Southeast Florida Chapter (NYRA-SEFL) will file a lawsuit challenging West Palm Beach's teen curfew! This is the first curfew challenge initiated by a youth led, civil rights organization (NYRA-SEFL's officers and members are high school students).
If you are interested in learning more about the West Palm Beach curfew lawsuit, go to NYRA-SEFL's Curfew Lawsuit Website. NYRA-SEFL has links to local press coverage on this page (I tried to embed the videos here but was unsuccessful).
This diary is also a request, for help and advice (below the fold).
Does anyone has any advice on how best to publicize this anti-curfew litigation? NYRA-SEFL has obtained local press coverage, but has not yet been able to reach beyond the West Palm Beach area. We feel that this lawsuit is unique because a youth-led civil rights group is filing the action.
I am searching for any news shows, columnists or reporters who might be interested in covering this story. Any ideas or contacts are greatly appreciated. Post them here or e-mail me at nocurfews@yahoo.com
To see the NYRA-SEFL in action, check out the commercial they produced last year to lower the voting age to 16. It aired on Washington DC cable last fall.
