Iran continues to spiral into a sea of mayhem and chaos. I am pleased to see that Americans are capable of managing and discussing our most important affairs like health care and energy legislation and keep vigilant about the inhumanity occuring at this moment in Iran. But since it appears as though the conversation is fading from the rec list I thought I would just do my part to remind everyone ... ordinary Iranians are ... at this exact moment in time ... being beaten and shot to death because they are standing in the street and speaking out against a fundamentalist regime.
There is never a shortage of images and they are never more than a click away. Let me give you a brief sampling of the Tweets ocurring now (and I mean this second) from Iranians fighting for their lives in peaceful dissent:
"they were waiting for us - they all have guns and riot uniforms - it was like mouse trap - ppl being shot like animals...
In Baharestan Sq. Tehran a mother beaten by riot militia when tried 2 prevent her son's arrest-her son arrested
I see many ppl with broken arms/legs/heads - blood everywhere - pepper gas like war
rpt of blood everywhere, broken legs, arms, fire
protesters bind piece of wood under your arm for protection from batons when you run
I just wanted to chime in and say that it's not getting quieter in Iran. It's getting worse. The difference between today and last Saturday is that the state regime has been effective in shutting down as many websites and cell towers as possible to increase violence against its own citizens, and that the violence is escalating ... not subsiding.
Is it possible that the horrific tweets coming across the #Iranelection feed are exxagerated or overstated? Possible. Or, it's also possible that there is a full scale massacre of ordinary Iranian citizens on the other side of planet as we speak.
Please just keep these fellows of the human family in your thoughts.
