I just received an email signed by Michelle Obama, asking me to join her in a National Day of Health Care Service. Below, find my reply. (BTW...It's addressed the President because that was the name that appeared in the To: window when I hit reply.)
Dear Mr. President,
I'll participate in the Health Care Day of Service when you commit to a public option for health care.
This is the time for lines in the sand, contra your words at the presser yesterday. You have political capital; there are a few areas in which it takes such capital to make a mark.
Consider what LBJ did when he put his weight behind the Voting Rights Act; it had consequences for his own and his party's political future, not all of them good. But, as you are very well aware it was (a) the right thing to do, and (b) a material antecedent to your own career.
So stand and deliver. This is why and so many others worked their butts off for you last fall.
With all best wishes,
Tom Levenson
I invite any and all to send their thoughts on this to the White House. Time to hammer on this one, I would say.
